Under the care of Mr Mersich I have had both of my hips replaced over the last eighteen months. From my first meeting with him I was impressed. It’s so scary being told that you need major surgery twice over but his tone and manner helped to calm those nerves. He explained the risks obviously but also how he could help me get my life back and he has been true to his word. He is friendly, professional and extremely good at what he does. His bedside visits post surgery were reassuring, even coming in over the weekend. Also enlightening when he spoke about what he’d found in theatre. I cannot praise him highly enough.

I first saw Mr Mersich in February at The Park Hospital. I had been suffering with my hip for two years when I finally plucked up the courage to do something about it. I was quite nervous as I knew a hip replacement was quite a big operation, but after speaking with Mr Mersich he soon put my mind at rest. He explained everything to me in simple terms and told me I would get my life back to how it was before . He was right!!! I am six months on from having my hip replacement and I can now do the things I haven’t been able to do for some time. I can’t thank Mr Mersich enough for what he has done

Mr Mersich has a very jolly, friendly manner that puts you at ease straight away. He’s done a left knee meniscectomy and a right total hip replacement on me and I feel like a new person! No hesitation in recommending him at all.

Full Hip Replacement. I had met Mr Mersich in the past when I had a shoulder injury, and I was impressed with his comprehensive approach to all possible solutions. In the end we jointly agreed not to operate, but to wait and see if it improved. This is an interesting decision for someone who makes his living by operating on people and, I think, just shows that he really puts the patients interest first. When I needed a total hip replacement, I did my research, asked around, and discovered to my surprise that Mr Mersich was right up there with the best results and patient care. I had my surgery at The Park hospital at the end of October 2020 - and just avoided covid cancellations by about a week. Phew! What My GP Said - if you have a hip replacement, that's the end of your rock climbing. What Mr Mersich Said - that he would take into the amount of flexibility I would need if I were to climb again. That I would be on crutches for 6 weeks - possibly less - and the physio suggested I should aim to do two 10 minute walks on my crutches sometime around 2 to 4 weeks. I would be reviewed at 6 weeks to see if I was off my crutches and I would be reviewed again at 12 weeks to see if I could try out climbing again. What I Got - at 16 days I was completely off my crutches and could walk a mile with no ill effects. At 4 weeks I was walking 2 to 3 miles, again with no ill effects, perhaps just a little achy after I had rested. At the 6 week review I was pretty well back to normal and Mr Mersich said I could probably try some gentle climbing at 12 weeks. Oh dear .... 5 days after the review the sun came out. Well, you can't miss an opportunity like that in winter can you? So I went climbing, then again 2 days later, then again the week after that - then it was inclement weather and lock down. The outcome of my surgery has FAR exceeded my expectations. I always knew I would climb again, but I never imagined I would be climbing again in just 6 weeks. My flexibility is almost as good as my other hip and I am able to touch my forehead onto my knee (try it). As for a character reference, Mr Mersich is down to earth, straight talking, no airs and graces. What you see is what you get - and what you get is first class surgery.
